Johnson & Johnson Janssens Pharmaceutical – Senior Performance Management Architect
2007-
Design and implementation of the Global Clinical Operations Balanced Scorecard. This scorecard was developed using a combination of Cognos8 and Informatica PowerCenter 7. His role included functional design of the scorecard metrics, technical specification design of the ETL and Cognos reports, ETL implementation, Cognos implementation, Cognos administration and support towards the users. The scorecard provides vital information concerning subject enrollment in world wide study protocols. Using this scorecard, the quality of enrollment data was strongly improved and the numbers of missing data dropped from over 2700 to 270 in less than 6 months. This scorecard enables trial managers to effectively monitor the site performance concerning enrollment in a global environment.
USG People – Performance Management Architect – Project Manager
2005-2009
The MIS system of USG People Belgium provides operational and financial data to at least 500 users from Office Manager to CFO’s of at least 10 different companies in the group. Reports range from typical profit and loss statements to employment statistics, commercial benchmarking and statistics concerning labor accidents... The data is drawn from at least 5 different source systems, consolidated using Informatica PowerCenter and then made available through the use of Cognos 8. Maarten’s started as an ETL and Cognos specialist, gathering user requirements, creating and implementing functional and technical specifications of reports and ETL, day to day datawarehouse maintenance and Cognos support. He migrated the Informatica PowerCenter 6 environment to Informatica PowerCenter 8. His role quickly evolved to project lead of the Belgian part of the MIS where he is responsible for project planning and budgeting. He also provided coaching for junior team members.
Business Intelligence Consultant
2000-2005
Maarten was a Business Intelligence Consultant for numerous projects in different domains. He was primarily focused on Business Objects and Oracle Reports/Discoverer. Maarten not only implemented a great deal of universes and reports, but also served as technical pre-sales consultant to aid the customer in choosing the best product for his needs. His role further included technical analysis and functional analysis of the reporting needs. He provided technical expertise to customers facing severe issues with their environment, such as performance or other problems.
In the finance sector Maarten helped construction operational reporting using Business Objects for Naviga. At European Investment Corporation (Societé Générale) he was involved in portfolio management reporting for stock obligations and bonds for wealthy clients. In the production sector Maarten helped maintaining the BI environment for Astra Sweets and VanCauwenberghe concrete products, both using Business Objects.
Safmarine, a worldwide shipping company faced issues with a centralized repository, seriously hampering login times. Using a split-up infrastructure, the login times were reduced from 3 minutes to 3 seconds. Using PL/SQL to create a datawarehouse and Business Objects the landscape service of the Ministère Region Bruxelles Capitale was able to better maintain the centralized data of over 11 000 monuments and other interesting features in Brussels.
For the Dutch Healthcare sector an out of the box Datawarehouse was devised. Maarten developed the semantic layers and a standard set of reports that could be rolled out to several mental hospitals such as GgzE ( Eindhoven ) and Adhesie ( Deventer ). For GgzE, this wasn’t the end…. a large number of reports and semantic layers were additionally constructed.

Started his career implementing Oracle Forms and Reports. Maarten was deployed in fixed price projects to custom build ERP applications based on Oracle technology for large customers like Schlumberger or Biffa. Soon after Maarten was full time implementing operational and financial reporting for Biffa, kicking of his career in Business Intelligence.
